10cm Rockwool Blocks product details:
10cm Rockwool blocks. Available in strips of 6 or boxes of 216 and with 25mm or 36mm holes to suit any of the cutting and seeding cubes we sell. Rockwool blocks in this size are used for transplanting with the idea being to grow your cuttings to a suitable size before moving them in to your final pots or hydroponic system.
10cm Rockwool Blocks usage:
Before you plant your cuttings or seedlings into your rockwool blocks presoak them for 24 hrs. Fill a reservoir, bucket etc with water and add in some
formulex or grow nutrient at a weak dose (EC of around 1.2 if you have a
nutrient truncheon or EC meter). Then finally adjust the PH to 5.2-5.5 and submerge all the blocks you need in the solution. Presoaking is important with Rockwool because the blocks come with a slightly high PH, so by presoaking in a solution with a slightly low PH the blocks are stabilized. Another good product to think about using is
Rhizotonic or something similar which will stimulate root development and avoid plant stress.
Once you've pre-soaked your rockwool clocks take them out and squeeze them gently to wring out a little water, plants need oxygen/air as much as nutrient so you don't want your block to be soaking wet as this will stunt plant development. Take your cuttings or seedlings which must be well rooted in their little cubes and simply place them in the hole in the Grodan Rockwool blocks.
For lighting you can use your main flowering light or metal halide bulbs but for growing your little babies through Rockwool blocks a blue spectrum
CFL light would be a better option and would pay for itself with the electric you would save. Obviously for veg whichever light you use will be on for 18 to 24 hrs of the day.
Make sure your blocks never dry out by dunking them in some fresh nutrient solution with a PH of 5.8-6.2 and EC of 1.2-1.3 every two or three days and again wringing them out a ilttle. You will know when its time to move the plants into your main system when you look at the underside of the rockwool block and there are plenty of strong white roots shooting out.
