When using high powered sodium or metal halide lights the inductive load generated by the ballast will fry conventional timers so that they stick on, this can be catastrophic in a growing environment as the result will be your lights don't turn off. To prevent this you will have to get a relay/contactor which will protect the timer and keep everything running smoothly.

Available in different sizes for all scales of operation make sure the unit can handle the wattages you're going to be plugging into them. 13 amps could handle up to 2800 watts of electrical items.
