How does the GT901 NFT System work?

Gro Tank 901 NFT Hydroponic systems are completely self-contained kits containing everything you'll need to get going growing. The original GT901 NFT gro-tank was actually the first hydroponic system designed for the home hydroponic market way back in 1979. NFT is one of the easiest and purest hydroponic techniques around that requires very little maintenance and a minimum of growing medium. If you've never tried NFT or even growing hydroponically you'll be amazed at the difference with this system, plants grow at an incredible rate and are very green and lush.

GT NFT systems consist of a tank or reservoir and a NFT top-tray that sits directly on top and allows you access at one end to maintain your nutrients, the top tray is on a slant. The nutrient is then pumped to the top tray, drains along it through the NFT channels and back to the reservoir.

The plants are grown in Grodan Rockwool blocks sat on a layer of spreader mat in the top plate. As root mass increases the spreader mat gives the roots something to grow into and serves as the growing medium. The corriboard top plate protects the rootzone from the light and sits on top of the top tray with holes cut out for the plants.
HINT: Get a suitable air pump and airstone. Plants in NFT love extra oxygen in the rootzone and your water will keep longer too.

What nutrients and growing mediums can I use with the GT901 NFT?

For growing medium use the spreader mat that comes included with the system and Grodan Rockwool blocks and cubes.

NFT Systems are pure recirculating systems so require a dedicated hydroponic nutrient. We'd recommend one of the following: Canna Aqua, VitaLink Max, Optimum, Dutchmaster GOLD or Sensi from Advanced Nutrients. Try and maintain a PH of 5.8-6.2.

HINT: Before introducing your plants to the system make sure they're rooted really well with roots balling up on the outside of your blocks and use a root stimulant like Rhizotonic , Voodoo Juice or RootJuice when you first move your plants into the system you'll notice the difference.
