E40 Lamp holders are suitable for use with any sodium, metal halide or CFL bulbs we sell. If using with sodium or metal halide bulbs you would need a suitable ballast or powerpack. CFL fluorescent bulbs are self-ballasting so this lamp holder could plug straight into the mains when using these bulbs.
