EC Fans – what are they?

EC stands for Electronically Commutated – which means that it’s a DC motor with no brushes – making it brushless. The EC fan uses an optimised plastic flow axial impeller that is balanced specifically to reduce vibration, humming and buzzing. This state of the art technology enables the fan to be more efficient at even half speed it will use less than half the power than the AC motor.

Using the best of both technologies

The EC motor runs on DC voltage – but with a normal AC supply, because the EC motor incorporates a voltage transformation inside the motor – there is no need for a bulky transformer, which is required when running DC motor in an AC application.

To make room for an electronic PCB board which provides the power transformation AC to DC – the non rotating part of the EC motor (stator) has been cleverly extended and completely integrated within the motor, bringing the below benefits:
